View All Repair ServicesTowing a heavy travel trailer, car hauler, or toy hauler without proper weight distribution is dangerous. It causes rear-end sag, leading to poor handling, reduced braking power, and terrifying trailer sway. By transferring tongue weight across all axles of your tow vehicle and trailer, a weight distribution hitch restores control and provides a smooth, level ride.
The proven, cost-effective standard. These systems use curved spring bars that adjust via chain links. They offer wide compatibility and decades of proven reliability for most standard towing applications.
Features removable, straight bars that slide directly into the head assembly. They offer easier, tool-free setup and removal, compact storage, and provide excellent ground clearance.
Modern premium systems combine weight distribution and anti-sway technology into a single, coordinated mechanism. This simplifies setup and offers the ultimate protection against wind gusts and semi-truck drafts.
The decision primarily comes down to tongue weight. As a general rule, if the tongue weight exceeds 10-15% of your trailer's total weight, or if it exceeds 50% of your tow vehicle's weight, a WD hitch is strongly advised.
Without it, the heavy tongue lifts your truck's front tires off the road, severely compromising your ability to steer and brake. Always consult your vehicle's owner's manual, as capacities vary wildly between half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and SUV platforms.
A premium WD setup makes bumper-pull towing feel almost as stable as a 5th wheel.
Most manufacturers rate vehicles higher (often 1,000 - 3,000 lbs more) when a WD hitch is used, allowing you to legally and safely pull larger trailers.
By pushing weight back onto the front axle, you restore the truck's designed steering geometry, ensuring normal steering effort and response.
Balanced weight means balanced braking. It prevents the trailer from pushing the rear of the truck during emergency stops, reducing stopping distance.
Eliminate the harsh, bouncing "porpoise" effect. The spring bars absorb shock, providing a much smoother ride and reducing driver fatigue.
Prevent premature wear on your rear suspension, shocks, and tires by preventing extreme squat and distributing the load evenly across the chassis.
Many states mandate WD hitches for trailers over specific weights. Using the proper equipment ensures DOT compliance and protects you from liability.
